Man Fatally Shoots Himself in McDonald’s Parking Lot As Police Approach

PoliceOfficerSAGAMORE – A 47-year-old man is dead after shooting himself in the head last night while state police approached him in the parking lot of a McDonald’s restaurant.

Sandwich police had issued a “be on the lookout,” or BOLO, for the man, when at 11:42 last night a state trooper saw the man and his car in the parking lot of the McDonald’s near the Sagamore Bridge.

Because it is a case of suicide, due to protocol, police are not releasing the man’s name or what town he is from.

The “be on the lookout” alert was due to the man being observed at a location in Sandwich with a gun and onlookers being concerned he would injure himself or others, according to police.

After the first state trooper saw the man, he called for a back-up before approaching, Guarino said. Once the second trooper arrived, the two troopers approached the man on foot as the man was in his car.

As they were approaching the man, Guarino said, he shot himself once in the head and killed himself.

Police called for an ambulance and the man was transported to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston where he was pronounced dead.
