NANTUCKET – The Nantucket Maria Mitchell Association has teamed up with the Nantucket Artists Association to bring artist Cindy Pease Roe to the island.
While there, Pease Roe will be hosting three workshops teaching participants how to create their own unique art pieces using plastic debris collected from the ocean and beaches.
A youth-friendly workshop will be held on Wednesday, August 15th. Attendees will create “up-cycled” whale sculptures, the event is open to adults and children over 6 years of age.
“Wine and Mobiles” is geared more for the adult crowd and will take place on Thursday August 9th as well as Thursday the 16th.
Pease Roe has been working tirelessly to spread the word concerning the invasion of plastics and other debris into our ocean habitats.
She has garnered the interest of school-aged children, art lovers, and activists alike by collecting plastic flotsam she finds along the shoreline and transforming it into thought-provoking and visually stimulating sculptures.
