BOSTON (AP) — The Massachusetts Senate has passed a $38 billion state budget.
The spending plan for the fiscal year beginning July 1 was approved early Friday. The Senate voted to freeze the state income tax rate at 5.15 percent while gradually increasing the earned income tax credit for low-income working families.
Senate President Stan Rosenberg (D-Amherst) says the budget includes investments to “lift all working families.”
On Wednesday the Senate passed a measure aimed at guaranteeing no tax dollars are spent hosting the 2024 Olympics in Boston without approval of the Legislature first.
The final version of the Senate budget will head to a six-member legislative committee to merge it with the House version to come up with a single budget to send to Gov. Charlie Baker for his signature.
