MassDOT Urges Travelers to Plan Ahead for Holiday Weekend

KA_Bourne Scenic Park Bridge_041816019BARNSTABLE – The Massachusetts Department of Transportation is asking motorists to plan ahead if they intend to travel during Columbus Day Weekend, which is one of the busiest weekends of the year on state highways.

Traffic congestion should be expected today on roadways heading toward popular fall destinations including Cape Cod.

MassDOT encourages drives to allow extra time for travel and to take advantage of communication tools available to help trips go smoothly.

For traffic and road conditions, motorists can dial 511 and select a route to hear real-time conditions, along with visiting mass511.com.

Free coffee will also be served at service plazas along Route 3 in Plymouth and on Route 6 in Barnstable from 10 p.m. Monday night through 5 a.m. Tuesday.
