Mayflower Autonomous Ship to Set Sail in September 2020

PLYMOUTH–The Mayflower Autonomous Ship will start its maiden voyage on September 6, 2020.

The ship will be powered by start-of-the-art hybrid propellers, utilizing wind, solar, battery, and diesel powers as it sails across the Atlantic from Plymouth, Massachusetts, to Plymouth, England.

It will also be carrying three research pods. Research in meteorology, oceanography, climatology, biology, marine pollution, conservation, and autonomous navigation will be conducted.

ProMare, a non-profit charity that conducts and promotes maritime research and exploration, is leading the partnership for this project.
