HYANNIS – The new season of the Cape Symphony gets underway tonight.

The 2015-16 season is full of firsts for the symphony and include the first time two guest artists are featured in one concert, the first premiere by a Grammy Award-winning composer and the first time Jon Manasse, a clarinetist, will take to the symphony stage.

Cape Symphony Artistic Director and Conductor Jung-Ho Pak said he enjoys having each season and concert be a different experience.

“I look at each concert individually but I try to make sure each season is incredibly varied,” he said. “I am a hopeless buffet attendee. I love to try a little bit of everything and I think our audience is very much the same way.”

The 2015-16 season is filled with big shows and Pak said the goal is get people upset when they don’t make a performance.

“My strategy is basically every time you miss a concert you’re kicking yourself,” he said. “You go ‘I can’t believe I missed that. We’re going to cancel our trip to Florida. We’re going to stay on the Cape,’ and that is my goal each time.”

“Two,” the first concert of the season, will be performed this evening at 7:30 at the Barnstable Performing Arts Center and Sunday afternoon and will feature guest pianist Jon Nakamatsu and Manasse.

The performance is the first Cape symphony concert to feature two guest artists and is also the first time Manasse will take the symphony’s stage.

Other performances this fall include “Just Judy” on October 10 and 11 which is a tribute to Judy Garland and will feature guest star Sarah Uriarte Berry, and “Vienna to Hollywood” which will feature film music on November 14 and 15.

“Holiday on Cape Cod” will have six performances from December 4 to 6.

Pak said the popularity of the holiday show continues to grow.

“When I started we had three holiday pops concerts and now we are up to six,” he said. “My dream is that this juggernaut of a series grows to eight and 10 and 12 [shows], and I can envision busloads of people from all over the region, tourists, coming to the Cape just to see this show.”

Pak said that even though right now the holiday show fills up one weekend he would love to fill up a whole month of holiday concerts.
