HYANNIS – More than two dozen men and women who have made a difference in the community will be honored this spring at the Red Cross Heroes Breakfast.
The 16th annual event will recognize individuals on Cape Cod, the Islands and Southeastern Mass who have saved a life, helped someone in need or served the community in an extraordinary way.
The class of 2017, which includes 25 heroes, will be honored April 13 at the Resort and Conference Center at Hyannis.
“We’ve got amazing life saving stories. We have a wonderful youth hero from Nantucket, and some pretty amazing professional heroes,” said Hilary Greene, the executive director of the Cape, Islands and Southeastern Mass chapter of the Red Cross.
There were 56 nominations for 2017 and Greene said it was a tough task to narrow down the list.
“Every year it gets harder and harder because the communities participate so much in wanting to honor the people that do great things for them,” Greene said.
This year’s Community Impact Hero recipient is David Willard, who retired after working for 50 years with Cape Cod 5 and served on several local non-profit boards.
“Dave was an easy choice,” Greene said. “He would lend a hand to any non-profit. He would work with the Cape Cod 5 Foundation to get them support, but he was always willing to listen and bring some great ideas and he really made a difference in our entire community.”
