No More Sagamore Bridge Lane Restrictions as Painting Project Wraps

sagamore bridgeBOURNE – The lane restrictions over the Sagamore Bridge have ended, as the $12.3 million painting project has been completed.

The work on the bridge which began in the spring of 2013 wrapped up overnight  Monday.

Army Corps of Engineers Spokesman Tim Dugan says the bridge should not see another painting project for some time.

“It really depends on the weather conditions and that type of thing but they are pretty good to last 10 or 15 years,” he said.

The project did take a little longer to complete than originally expected.

“It’s kind of been a long road because of the weather situation.” Dugan said. “We had a couple significant storms and things that have delayed our work.”

According to Dugan, the work including sanding the bridge down to the bare metal in areas before applying a primer and top coats of paint to preserve the metal and prevent rust.

Dugan said there are not any significant repairs scheduled on the bridges for at least the rest of the year, but there could be lane restrictions for routine maintenance like pot hole or lighting repairs.
