Sandwich High Principal Announces Retirement

SANDWICH – After serving the last 14 years as the principal of Sandwich High School, Ellin Booras will retire at the end of the year.

Booras, who has spent 18 years in the district, says her time as principal has been a journey of creativity, satisfaction and enormous pride.

“I’m grateful to have worked with such a talented and dedicated staff, remarkable students who populate the halls and illuminate the classrooms and give 100 percent on the playing fields,” Booras said.

Booras said she has enjoyed the freedom to create and the opportunity to preserve to core values of the school and the district.

She came to Sandwich in 1999 as an assistant principal at the high school and was promoted after the retirement of Clifford Sylvia in 2003.

Booras said she thinks the school is headed in the right direction to unify the students, STEM students and younger kids in kindergarten through 6th grade.

She said she has cherished to opportunity to know the students and to support them during their adolescent years.

When she took over as principal she said she had one simple wish.

“I wanted to lead in a way that long after our students graduate and their own children say ‘did you know your principal?’ – that every student at Sandwich High School would say ‘yes,’” she said.
