HYANNIS – The Barnstable Police Department has released a PSA reminding residents that Saturday, October 28 is “National Take Back Day”, in which residents can drop off unwanted prescription medications at the Barnstable Police Station at 1200 Phinney’s Lane in Hyannis from 10 am to 2 pm.

Improper disposal of pharmaceutical drugs can negatively affect the safety of the Cape’s water supply, creating a health and safety hazard for its citizens.

Those who wish to dispose of medications but cannot do so on Saturday can also bring them to the police station’s unwanted medication kiosk, which is open year-round.

Mail-back envelopes can also be found at local pharmacies.
