BOSTON (AP) — U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry has arrived at a Boston hospital for treatment of a broken leg he suffered in a bicycle accident.

The 71-year-old Kerry flew from Geneva to Logan International Airport on Monday night. He traveled on a U.S. military plane accompanied by orthopedic surgeon Dennis Burke and other medical personnel. He then headed to Massachusetts General Hospital.

Burke is expected in the coming days to perform surgery on Kerry’s right femur there. Burke did Kerry’s hip replacement there several years ago.

Kerry is an avid cyclist. He fractured his leg Sunday when he struck a curb and fell on a regular Tour de France route in France.

U.S. officials insist his injury won’t hinder his participation in nuclear negotiations with Iran as an end-of-June deadline approaches.
