New Artisan Shacks Officially Open at Saquatucket Harbor

HARWICH – The six artisan shacks at the new Seaside Marketplace in Harwich Port are officially open.

The shacks opened with an official dedication ceremony at the newly renovated marina, which took place during the state’s ArtWeek.

Sue Sullivan with the Boch Center spoke at the ceremony, stating that the day marks “more than just the opening and tour of a beautiful new development.”

“It marks more than just a new hub for business and creative entrepreneurs. In my eyes, it’s actually more of a celebration of how Harwich is emerging as one of the most exciting creative communities in this state,” Sullivan said.

“I’m so proud of how ArtWeek has just exploded across the Cape. This year with over one hundred events that serve as a timely reminder as to why arts, culture and creativity matter in our everyday lives.”

It’s another addition to the town’s marina that has area residents praising Harwich as one of the best arts communities on the Cape.

“What an exciting day for Harwich. As I stand here today in Saquatucket Harbor, witnessing this wonderful collaboration and the debut of these artisan shacks, I’m reminded of the commitment we made as part of the Cultural Compact in February of 2018,” Chair of the Harwich Cultural Council Tina Games said at the May 12 ceremony.

“Harwich serves as a shining example of a community that values culture and the arts. Look at all of us today. Isn’t this great? Here is to our creative economy and all that it brings to Harwich. Arts and culture matter,” she said.

The ceremony saw other elected officials speak as well, including State Senator Julian Cyr (D-Truro), Selectman Ed McManus and Town Administrator Christopher Clark.

Area artists can lease the artisan shacks for weekend or week-long displays of their artwork.
