A roof collapsed at a tire business on Cranberry Highway in Onset this morning.
EAST WAREHAM – A portion of Cape & Islands Tire on Cranberry Highway came down sometime last night or early this morning.
Onset Fire Chief Raymond Goodwin said crews found the damage after detecting a gas leak in the area just after 4 am while returning from another call.
Goodwin said the cause is believed to be from the weight of snow on the structure and the resulting collapse sheered a gas line.
Building department engineers are still determining if the building is salvageable.
The Plymouth County Technical Rescue Team was called to the scene to assist with the investigation.
Goodwin said a gas explosion causing the collapse was ruled out.
