State Fiscal Budget Includes Funding for Families of Substance-Exposed Newborns

BOSTON – The latest reconciled state budget included $300,000 for the 2020 Fiscal Year for Massachusetts to fund a program to aid families with newborns exposed to substances such as opioids.

The amendment to allocate the money, sponsored by Plymouth/Barnstable State Senator Vinny deMacedo, would fund a program created by last year’s opioid bill and would focus on infants that suffer from Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS).

Newborns with NAS feel the same substance withdrawals that adults might experience.
