Substation Transformer Responsible for Sandwich, Bourne Power Outages

SANDWICH – The brief but widespread power outage that hit residents in Sandwich and Bourne Tuesday afternoon has been traced back to transmission equipment at a substation in Sandwich.

A failed transformer led to the outage that impacted 7,500 Eversource customers, but power was back on within six minutes thanks to the company’s distribution automation technology.

Crews are making repairs at the substation.
