The Sierra Club to Host ‘Zero Waste’ Workshop

BREWSTER – The Sierra Club of Cape Cod is inviting members of the public to come to a gathering to discuss solid waste.

At ‘Zero Waste on Cape Cod: Status & Next Steps’ on June 7th at the Brewster Ladies Library, attendees will consider whether the state and the Cape specifically are doing enough to address solid waste management challenges.

The forum will feature two speakers: Kirstie Pecci, who leads the Conservation Law Foundation’s Zero Waste Project, and Kari Parcell, who is the Cape’s regional recycling coordinator.

The women will discuss working through the Barnstable County’s Cooperative Extension Program and the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection.

In addition, a panel will focus on successful and emerging solutions, including the pay-as-you-throw programs adopted by Sandwich and Brewster; Provincetown’s bans of bags, straws, and other materials; and Yarmouth’s plans for a regional digester for diverting organics.
