WAQUOIT – Training is being offered by Waquoit Bay Reserve this month on the social science basics of coastal management.
Social sciences are a valuable, but often overlooked element of coastal zone management. Issues from marsh restoration to flood mitigation all involve critical human elements, including the knowledge, values, and attitudes of the people that live and work in these areas.
The workshop, Social Science Basics for Coastal Managers, will provide participants basic knowledge and skills to help coastal managers understand their stakeholders.
Held at the Waquoit Bay Reserve Visitor Center, the workshop will be divided into three sessions: Understanding Stakeholders, Conducting Interviews, and Writing Effective Survey Questions.
The program targets local officials, state & federal agency staff, resource managers and non-profit organizations who work on coastal management issues.
Waquoit Bay staff ask all interested participants to register for the workshop by Friday, April 19.
The workshop will be held on Wednesday, April 24 from 9:00 through 4:30 p.m.
