PROVIDENCE – The family of Jared MacDonald, the Bourne police officer who was shot in the back Thursday at a Monument Beach condominium complex, said he is doing well and is in good spirits.

The family released a statement regarding MacDonald’s condition through Rhode Island Hospital in Providence.

MacDonald’s family said he has a long recovery ahead of him and is asking for privacy during the healing process.

MacDonald was one of those shot during the triple shooting Thursday in Monument Beach.

Officers were responding to the scene when the suspect fired on them, according to police.

He was shot in the back and remains hospitalized at Rhode Island Hospital.

Cape and Islands District Attorney Michael O’Keefe said MacDonald had undergone surgery to have the bullet removed and that he was recovering at the hospital.

Coast Guard Petty Officer Lisa Trubnikova, 31, was shot multiple times and was killed.

She had been stationed at Joint Base Cape Cod.

Petty Officer Anna Trubnikova, 30, who was Lisa’s wife, was wounded and remains hospitalized.

She was stationed at Woods Hole.

Adrian homas Loya, 31, of Virginia, is accused of being the shooter  and was also an active duty member of the Coast Guard.

He pled not guilty and is being held without bail.

The case remains under investigation.
