Lyric Restaurant on Route 6A in Yarmouthport.
YARMOUTHPORT – Police are seeking a suspect they say may have set the fire at the Lyric Restaurant on Route 6A in Yarmouthport.
The owners of the restaurant told police that when they discovered the fire, they saw a man approximately 30 to 35 years old, six-feet-tall, with a thin build, wearing dark colored shorts, and some type of sneakers run towards the front of the restaurant to a utility box truck parked in front of the restaurant on the same side of Route 6A facing east and drove off.
On Monday, at approximately 7:52 p.m., Yarmouth Police Department Patrol Officer Michael Zontini was dispatched to the restaurant at 43 Route 6A for a report of a structure fire.
Zontini found the fire in a shed area and the couple who own the property trying to put out the fire with two small fire extinguishers. Zontini was able to extinguish the fire with the use of a larger fire extinguisher from his police cruiser.
Members of the Yarmouth Fire Department arrived and it was determined that several different chemical agents were inside the shed and had burned.
Zontini met with the couple who advised him that they were in their home which is in the rear area of the parking lot of the restaurant and heard a loud explosion coming from the restaurant area. They said they saw fire coming from the west side of the restaurant and the attached shed and they saw a man running from the building.
Yarmouth Police Department Detective Christopher Kent arrived on scene and in conjunction with Yarmouth Fire Department Lieutenant Matthew Bearse is conducting a follow-up investigation. Barnstable County Sheriff’s Department Crime Scene Unit arrived and provided crime scene photography and evidence collection services.
