Yarmouth Welcomes Four-Legged Friends to a New Park

IMAG0079YARMOUTH – Yarmouth residents are enjoying the town’s new dog park.

The grand opening for the facility was held last weekend, but many residents checked it out for the first time throughout the week.

Hyannis resident Heather Bond brought her dog to the park Thursday.IMAG0081

“I wanted my dog to be able to kind of run freely around, we don’t have a huge back yard, and we wanted her to get out and be able to be with other dogs,” said Bond.

The new dog park is located at the Sandy Pond Recreational Area on Buck Island Road in West Yarmouth.

The Stanton Foundation awarded $213,000 for the Yarmouth Dog Park.

The cost of the main message board was donated by the Cape Cod Foundation via the Thomas C. McGowan Fund for Animals.

The park features trees for shade, three off-leash fenced in areas for large dogs, small dogs and a training dog area, as well as water stations and waste bag dispensers.

Yarmouth resident Rachel Mitchell has been waiting for a dog park in the town, and said she was very pleased with it.

“It’s pretty nice, very nice, separating the big dogs from the small dogs, got water, bags, it’s very nice,” said Mitchell.
