ORLEANS — Southpaw Drew Gallant struck out nine and tossed a complete-game two-hitter Friday night at Eldredge Park to lead Barnstable Post 206 past Orleans Post 308, 5-1.
One of the hits Gallant allowed was a third-inning solo home run driled to the opposite field by Orleans Post 308 rightfielder Kino Gray, his fifth of the season.
Gallant added a 2-4, one RBI-performance at the plate for Post 206 and was the sole multiple hitter for either side. Eric Holzman had a key RBI basehit in the sixth inning for Post 206 and Mike Knell hammered a one-run triple in the first frame.
Barnstable Post 206 is now 10-6 heading into the last week of the regular season before the District 10 playoffs commence next Friday, July 17.
Sandwich Post 188 rose the strong right arm of Capecod.com Player of the Year Kevin Marsh en route to a 6-0 win over Whitman Post 22. Two nights ago, Sandwich blanked Pembroke Post 143, 3-0.
Sandwich Post 188 sits atop the East Division of the District 10 standings in first place.
Barnstable lost a heartbreaker to Hawkeye AC Thursday night, 4-1, but had a 1-0 lead going into the seventh inning. With one out, a costly infield error led to a tie game and an eventual extra-innings win by Hawkeye. The two teams split during the regular season, but Hawkeye sits atop the West Division of the District 10 standings.
