COTUIT — Eric Holzman hammered his first career American Legion home run and Gary DiSarcina Jr. ripped a walk-off RBI single to pace the Barnstable Post 206 American Legion baseball team past a tough Whitman Post 22 team in the second round of the District 10 playoffs last night at Elizabeth Lowell Park.
Holzman, who went 2-3 with two RBI on the night, ripped his homer into the left field trees with DiSarcina on first base in the fourth inning to give Post 206 a 4-3 lead. DiSarcina led off the fourth with a single and ended up going 3-4 with one RBI on the night and the game-winning hit.
Post 206 leadoff man Bobby Higgins ripped a one-run triple as part of Post 206’s four-run fourth. He went 2-4 with one RBI.
DiSarcina’s hit made a winner out of starter Conor Walsh who went the distance and struck out eight batters for his fifth win of the season. He walked two batters.
Daniel Crossen caught a phenomenal game for Post 206 behind the plate and went 1-3 with one stolen base.
In other District 10 American Legion playoff action, Sandwich Post 188 righty Nick Couhig tossed a complete-game, 1-0, shutout over Brockton Post 35 on Friday night but Kingston Post 387 defeated Sandwich Post 188 last night, 7-4. Sandwich Post 188 will now face Plymouth Post 40 tonight while Barnstable Post 206 heads back to Merrill “Red” Wilson Field for a 5:00 pm match-up with Wareham Post 220.
