COTUIT – Jake Gleason had hunger in his belly.
The righthander notched his second win of the season on the mound for Barnstable Post 206 and was one hit away from the cycle at the plate as he paced the defending East Division District 10 American Legion champs to a 12-2 win over Plymouth Post 40.
The win avenged an earlier season loss to Post 40 by nearly the same score in a 180-degree turn-around for the hosts. Post 206 is now 8-4 and has won eight straight games.
Gleason retired the side in the first frame and then hammered an RBI-triple to put Post 206 on the scoreboard en route to an early five-run rally. He ended up going 3-4 with three RBI and was a home run shy of the circuit.
He went six innings on the mound and struck out two while walking four and scattering five hits. He was also the beneficiary of some pretty nifty defense from Jackson Badot in leftfield, Mike Knell at shortstop and Eric Holzman at first base.
Knell went 3-3 with one RBI, including a double and Gary DiSarcina Jr. went 2-3 with three runs scored (walk) and drove in two runs. Badot hammered a two-run triple and went 1-2. Leadoff man Drew Tardif went 2-4.
