Barnstable and Nauset Golf Squads Take Season-Openers (SLIDESHOW)

HYANNIS – The Barnstable High School Red Raiders golf men took a match-low 39 from third flighter Caleb Axleson en route to a rock-solid 247-270 win over the Sandwich Blue Knights Tuesday at the Hyannis Golf Club.

Barnstable’s Bobby Harrington fired a five-over par 40 from the second flight and first flight senior Gary DiSarcina Jr. shot a 42 to tie the Blue Knights’ Mithran Denbow to give the hosts the top three scores of the match.

Harrington defeated Sandwich High sophomore Jack Hurley, 40-46, while Axelson ran away with the top score – 39-55 – against Blue Knight third flighter Nick Kias.

Barnstable High junior Jackson Badot faced Sandwich High’s Jack Raye and defeated him, 44-47, while Red Raider junior Ben Glover took down Sandwich High’s Alec Abramson, 44-49.

Sandwich’s Hudson Dees was the sole individual victor on the afternoon over Barnstable’s Ryan Dooley, 43-47.

Barnstable High alternates Holden Elletson and Zach Cohen shot respective 42s over Sandwich High’s Paul Glynn (43) and Jordan Leary (50).

Barnstable heads to St. John’s Prep Wednesday for another non-league match.

The Blue Knights hope to break into the win column Thursday at the Sandwich Hollows against Nauset.

Defending Atlantic Coast League Champion Nauset Downs D-Y Dolphins at The Captains

BREWSTER — The Nauset Warriors (1-0) and 10th-year head coach Brian Hicks started off their Atlantic Coast League title defense in fine fashion at The Captains Tuesday afternoon and defeated the Dennis-Yarmouth Dolphins boys golf team (0-1), 248-298 in a season-opening league match for both teams.

Warrior Andrew Flynn fired a three-over-par 39 to pace the Black & Gold while teammates Charlie Campbell and Conor McDonnell each shot four-over-par 40s to round things outs.

Dennis-Yarmouth’s Ian DeArmond was the low scorer for the Dolphins with a 7-over-par 43 in his first flight match against Nauset’s Flynn.

The Warriors, who went 14-1 last season while capturing the Atlantic Coast League crown, lost only to Barnstable last fall.

Nauset’s Lane Bohman squared up against D-Y’s Jacob Provencher and won, 44-52, while Charlie Campbell shot a 40 to Sawyer Adamaitis’ 59.

The two teams squared off against each other on The Captains’ portside course.
