FALMOUTH – The Barnstable High School girls’ tennis team took its record to 8-1 Tuesday afternoon on the road, as it defeated the host Falmouth High girls (3-4) by a 5-0 margin.
The non-league contest between the archrivals did not fail to come with at least one hotly contested net battle, as Barnstable’s number one singles player Katie Tynan hammered it out with Falmouth freshman Julia Moskal. Tynan prevailed, 6-4, 7-6 (7-1), and the remainder of the Red Raiders followed her lead.
Lauren Persson took the number two singles match with Marysia Moskal, 6-0, 6-1, and Red Raider number three singles stalwart Emma Doe defeated Emily Maness, 6-1, 6-3.
In number one doubles action, the duo of Taya Berler and Michaela Cornwall got the upper hand over Falmouth’s Paige Meade and Lyndsey Shea, 6-0, 6-2, followed by Caroline Young and Olivia Berler at number two singles who staged 6-1, 6-1 scores in the number two doubles slot over Emily Getney and Emily Friedman.
Barnstable next faces a tough Martha’s Vineyard team on the road on Thursday (May 7) at 3:00 pm while Falmouth welcomes Dennis-Yarmouth on Friday in an Atlantic Coast League match-up at 4:00 pm.
Barnstable Boys Mix Things Up in Win over Clippers, Clinch Tourney Berth
Red Raider sophomore Max Francis once again proved his mettle Tuesday afternoon at home in a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Falmouth’s Brian Estes in number one singles play and Barnstable was off and running to maintain its unbeaten streak.
The Red Raiders swept the visiting Clippers, 5-0, and in so doing clinched a postseason tournament berth. Barnstable is now 9-0 on the 2015 campaign.
At number two singles, Cooper Hesse delivered a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Marcus Dalpe, followed by Nate Medeiros’ win over sophomore Michael Mangalo, 6-1, 6-0, at number three singles.
In number one doubles, Donnie Brodd and Cooper Blaze defeated the Falmouth duo of Dante Borgese and Luke Knox, 6-1, 6-0, and in number two doubles, Gabe Rourke and Matt Kaski took a 6-0, 6-1, win over Falmouth’s Ben Helfrich and Wes Garland, both freshmen.
The Red Raiders next face Martha’s Vineyard at home at 3:30 on Thursday while Falmouth (2-5) Welcomes Cohasset today at 3:30 pm. Both are non-league contests.
