Barnstable Tennis Boys Net 12th Straight OCL Title; Lady Lions, Nauset, Red Raider Girls Win

HYANNIS – For the 12th consecutive season, the Barnstable High boys’ tennis team was crowned Old Colony League champions Monday afternoon after a 5-0 win over visiting Dartmouth as the Red Raiders climbed to 14-0.

It is the fifth straight league title for head coach Mike Sarney who boasts an 82-9 record through Monday afternoon.

“I’m very proud of all the boys’ hard work and dedication,” Sarney said.

Red Raider senior co-captain Sonny Bisazza captured the number one singles match versus the Indians’ Chris Ouelette, 6-3, 6-1, followed by Cooper Hesse at number two singles with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Max Lindblom.

At number three singles, Nate Medeiros defeated Conner Alves, 6-1, 6-4.

The number one doubles team of Donnie Brodd and Cooper Blaze contiud their winning ways with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Tanner Waltz and Nick Starrett and Gabe Rourke and Daniel Dettinger-Klemm downed Chase Correia and Patrick Thornton, 6-4, 6-1.

Barnstable welcomes the Sandwich Blue Knights on Wednesday (May 20) for a 4:00 pm match-up and has Bridegwater-Raynham (May 21) and Duxbury (May 28) remaining in the regular season.

St. John Paul II Girls Defeat Dennis-Yarmouth Dolphins

The St. John Paul II girls’ tennis team picked up a critical victory Monday afternoon and avenged an early season loss against the Dennis-Yarmouth girls in Hyannis by a 4-1 margin.

The Lady Lions are now 6-9 on the campaign while Dennis- Yarmouth fell to 2-12.

Senior co-captain Haylee Whiteley started things off with a win versus D-Y’s Virginia Liu, 6-0, 6-1, followed by a victory from number two singles player and junior co-captain Emily Canzano who beat D-Y’s Victoria Liu, 6-2, 6-0.

Lady Lions’ number three singles player Allison Santos, a sophomore, defeated  Cindy Li, 6-2, 6-0, to sweep singles play.

“The girls had a great win today,” St. John Paul II head coach Katie Dombrowski said. “Haylee, Emily and Allison all won definitively in straight sets without losing more than two games apiece. Each and every one of them played with clear intentions and fantastic energy.”

At number one doubles, Lady Lions’ Jacqueline Germani, a senior co-captain, and senior Julia Grady defeated Rebecca Khachikianl and Olivia VanLare, 6-3, 6-4. Dennis-Yarmouth’s Anna Bach and Melina Behnke  beat St. John Paul II’s Grace Sohoel- Goldberg and Megan Moran, 6-4, 6-4 to take the sole match victory for the visiting Dolphins.

St. John Paul II faces an undefeated Martha’s Vineyard squad in Oak Bluffs on Thursday (May 21).

Nauset Warrior Girls Show Dominance over Cape Cod Academy Seahawks

The 13-3 Nauset girls’ tennis team continued to roll forward Monday toward the postseason in decisive fashion as it tripped up Cape Cod Academy, 5-0, on the Seahawks’ Osterville campus.

The Seahawks fell to 5-10 on the season with the loss. Nauset remains 7-0 in Atlantic Coast League play, even though the match versus the Academy was a non-league affair.

Nauset number one singles player and senior co-captain Allie Dadoly paved the way for the Warriors with a win over the Academy’s Nell Thornton, 6-0, 6-2 and her sister Nika Dadoly followed suit with a hard-earned win at number two singles over the Seahawks’ Noelle Benoit, 7-6 (7-3), 4-6, 12-10.

At number three singles, Nauset’s Haley Navarro defeated Marena Gardella, 6-4, 6-1.

Nauset co-captains Anna Godshalk and Haley Benz took the number one doubles match, 6-0, 6-0 over Claire Carvonis and Olivia Doe. At number two doubles, Taylor Wilkins and Carlisle Wheeler defeated Addy Terry-Walsh & Gracyn Roundtree, 6-2, 6-2.

Nauset welcomes Martha’s Vineyard on Wednesday (May 20) in what could prove to be the match of the season between two of the Cape’s top teams. Cape Cod Academy welcomes Fairhaven on Wednesday (May 20) in its last regular season match.

Barnstable High Girls Net Victory over Darmouth on the Road

The Barnstable High girls tennis team remained unbeaten in OldColony League play Monday with a 5-0 win over host Dartmouth and now stand at 13-2 on the season and 3-0 in the OCL.

Number one singles player Lauren Persson kept her winning streak rolling with a victory over Caroline Boglini, 6-1, 6-1, and Emma Doe took number two singles with a perfect 6-0, 6-0 win over Lucy Schwartz. Angelique Gray took number three singles with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Kelly McManus.

At number one doubles, Caroline Young and Olivia Berler notched a 6-1, 6-1 win over Karina Almeida and Megan Anderson and at number two doubles, Red Raiders Halle Dennis and senior Christy Partin beat Julia Levin and Serina Saucier, 6-1, 6-0.

The Red Raiders welcome Sandwich on Wednesday (May 20).
