NEWTON – A trio of Barnstable High School Red Raider track and field stars took home the gold yesterday at the MSTCA Division 1 Spring Relays at Newton South High School.
The long jump relay team comprised of Barnstable High sophomore Chris Fawcett and seniors Malique Dickerson-Pells and Willie Brown joined efforts to win the long jump relay with a combined distance of 61’7.5″.
The Red Raiders placed 11th overall out of 30 teams in the Sprint Medley which was led by Senior Chris Lovett with a personal best in the 800m race with a time of 2:05, followed by Willie Brown and Sophomore Will Cooke running 200 meters each and then anchored by Sophomore Lucas Lanzo in the 400m.
Other notable performances turned in by the Red & White harriers included the shotput trio comprised of sophomore Zach Morgan and juniors Nick Johnson and Joey Goncalves. Morgan, Johnson and Goncalves took 10th place ovwerall out of 16 teams in the competition with a combined throwing distance of 114’1.25″.
In the boys’ discus, Barnstable juniors Nick Johnson, Joey Goncalves and Tanner Banks took a respectable 8th place finish out of 18 teams with their combined throw of 312’7″.
