EAST SANDWICH – This Atlantic Coast League Friday night high school boys’ lacrosse tilt had all the makings of a barnburner, with Falmouth needing an inspirational win and Sandwich needing to prove it was no fluke.
And when the dust settled at Captain Gerald F. DeConto USN Veterans Memorial Stadium with 3:18 left in overtime, deadlocked at 10-10, both the Clippers and the Blue Knights had

inspired all in attendance and had each proven their squad is the real deal.
But it was senior Alec Henderson who provided the dramatic, 11-10 walk-off victory for the hosts, scoring two goals in the fourth quarter and then the game-winner on an assist from Jameson Buttafuoco at the 3:18 mark in sudden death overtime.
With Falmouth ahead, 8-7, at the end of the third quarter, Henderson poured it on with a pair of back-to-back goals at the 10:43 mark to tie it as 8-8, and then at 9:01 to go ahead, 9-8. With just 3:51 left in regulation time, Zack Gorrasi took a feed from Buttafuoco and buried it for a 10-8 lead and what appeared to be enough insurance to take home the win.
But then Falmouth senior midfielder Matt Katon and junior attacker Sam Walker decided to buckle down and get the job done for the Clippers as time was set to expire.
With just 1:02 left in the fourth quarter, Katon netted an unassisted beauty to make it 10-9 and then Walker knotted it at 10-10 with just 0:38 seconds to go. It was Walker’s third and final goal of the night.
Both goaltenders played exceptionally well throughout this torrid affair, with Blue Knight backstop Gavin Guarino making 20 stops and Falmouth freshman netminder Dylan McDonald 15 saves.
Sandwich climbed to 5-2 with the victory and Falmouth fell to a deceptive 1-4.
Buttafuoco, Henderson and Gorrasi each netted hat tricks for the Blue Knights, while midfielder Brian Wahle scored a pair. Buttafuoco and Gorassi each added four assists to give them both seven points on the night.

Falmouth won 14 of the game’s 23 faceoffs and had also scored the game’s first goal when sophomore midfielder Alex Manos put one past Guarino at the 10:02 mark of the 1st quarter. Manos scored two goals on the night and added two assists.
Falmouth senior midfielder Arlin Moore had a hat trick and junior attacker Sam Walker scored three as well.
Matt Katon and CJ DeMello each added a goal to round out the scoring for the visiting Clipper laxmen.
Sandwich enjoyed a 4-3 lead after the first quarter and a 6-5 lead at halftime. The Clippers took over that lead in the third frame with an 8-7 advantage and then both teams tied it at 10-10 after four frames.
Falmouth hopes to get back on track on Monday (April 20) when it heads to Pembroke High for a 12:00 pm match-up.
Sandwich returns to action on Thursday (April 23) against Martha’s Vineyard in the Bridgewater-Raynham Tournament.
