The visiting Buccaneers (3-2, 1-0 MASCAC) overcame an early 1-0 deficit by scoring six unanswered goals, including a pair each by Prokscha and sophomore Ashley Solari (Sandwich), over a 15:25 stretch to take a 6-1 lead with 6:22 to play in the opening half, and after senior Rebecca Pike (Troy, NY) ended that run for the host Trailblazers (2-3, 0-1 MASCAC), Smith tallied twice in the final 3:39 of play to extend Massachusetts Maritime’s advantage to 8-2 at the break. Sophomore Christina Murphy’s (Forestdale) marker just 2:02 after intermission gave the visitors their largest lead of the day at 9-2, but MCLA struck for four unanswered goals, including a pair off the stick of junior Kate Brown (Adams), in less than 15 minutes to close back to within three at 9-6. The Buccaneers iced their triumph on markers from Prokscha and freshman Stephanie Hunt (Brookfield, CT) that came in a 2:09 stretch late in the contest, as the Trailblazers were held scoreless for the final eight-plus minutes of play.

Murphy tallied twice in the triumph for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received a goal and assist from freshman Brianna Pingree (Mashpee) to go with three helpers off the stick of sophomore Dahlia Seggelin (Sharon). Brown netted a hat trick in the setback for MCLA, which also received a pair of goals from Pike, a marker from sophomore Natalie Caney (Belchertown) and an assist off the stick of freshman Mackenzie Cutler (East Amherst) on the day.

Freshman Mikayla Correia (Dartmouth) picked up the win in goal with an 11-save effort for Massachusetts Maritime, while sophomore Alexandra David (Lowell) made five stops in the setback for MCLA as the Buccaneers outshot the Trailblazers by a 26-24 margin in the first-ever meeting between the schools.

Massachusetts Maritime travels to New London, CT on Thursday afternoon to take on Mitchell in a non-league outing that begins at 4:00 pm, while MCLA hosts Southern Vermont in a non-league match on Wednesday afternoon in North Adams, Mass. beginning at 3:00 pm.
