As diminutive, self-effacing and humble as she may be off the field, make no mistake, Falmouth Academy freshman lacrosse player Jane Earley is a veritable whirlwind of athletic skill and competitiveness in the heat of battle. In the past week, Earley has cemented her presence in the Cape & Islands League this season as perhaps one of its top, if not the top female lacrosse player with over 25 goals and over 20 assists. Tuesday afternoon versus a tough Cape Cod Academy team, Earley helped her Mariners maintain their undefeated record at 6-0 with five goals and four assists. An equally gifted basketball player, we expect to see continued big things from this stalwart student-athlete not only as this season progresses, but over the next three years.

There’s little doubt that Sandwich High School’s Zack Gorrasi hails from an athletic family as he has been living up to that notion on the heels of his older brother Nick Gorrasi’s legacy with the Blue Knights Laxmen this season. Last Friday night in a key Atlantic Coast League match-up with the visiting Falmouth Clippers, Gorrasi set the tone for the Knights early and often and finished with three goals on the night in an 11-10 overtime victory. Tuesday, Gorrasi paced the Blue Knights to another Atlantic Coast League victory with six goals and an assist in a 13-8 win over the host Dennis-Yarmouth Dolphins who had lost just one game up to that point. For both Earley and Gorrasi’s efforts, they are this week’s Capecod.com Athletes of the Week.
