Nick Perito, Falmouth High: It seemed only a matter of time before Falmouth High School senior Nick Perito landed smack dab in the middle of the Cape’s baseball radar as his pitching skills this season have risen to an entirely new level. Last week, Perito went toe-to-toe in a seven-inning pitchers’ duel at Elmer “Guv” Fuller Field with Sandwich High southpaw Will “Shaggy” Crowther and while the Blue Knight got the upper hand, Perito showed great poise with seven strikeouts. On Wednesday (May 21), Perito ramped things up with a complete-game win over a stunned Dennis-Yarmouth nine, allowing just three hits for the win. For his efforts, Perito was offered and accepted a vaunted spot with the Orleans Post 308 American Legion baseball team, a spot well-deserved and he is this week’s Capecod.com male Athlete of the Week.

Taylor Conley, Dennis-Yarmouth: At 15-1 right now, Mike Bonasia’s Dennis-Yarmouth Dolphins are riding the crest of a stellar season for multiple reasons but one such reason that stood out this week was leadoff hitter Taylor Conley. Yes, one could very well go through the entire Dolphin lineup and pick out virtually any one of Bonasia’s pupils as a star among stars, but few softball players this week on the Cape stood out quite like the hard-hitting Conley. Against Martha’s Vineyard, the Dennis-Yarmouth shortstop, hammered a first inning solo shot, followed by a two-run double in the second inning, an RBI-triple in the fourth and an RBI-single in the fifth to finish 4-5 with five RBI. The following day? Conley went 4-5 in her team’s 19-hit barrage against Nauset. It’s the stuff high school coaches dream about and for her efforts, Conley is without question this week’s Capecod.com female Athlete of the Week.
