Sometimes subtle, sometimes fierce along the boards, the one main consistency with Mashpee-Monomoy Monarchs senior ice hockey captain Colin Fader is that he produces. The leading scorer for the entire Cape & Islands as of Monday morning with 18 points overall, he has eight goals and 10 assists. Some might argue that there are more prolific goal-scorers on the Cape right now – there are. But the bottom line is that Fader knows how to use situational hockey to set up his teammates and make them shine. That sort of skill can’t really be taught and after a three-assist night Saturday, you have to tip your cap to him. Bottom line: he’s at the top of the heap when it comes to putting points on the scoreboard. Honorable Mentions: Barnstable’s Matt Kaski and Fader’s teammate Aiden Sullivan – both hockey players had four-goal games this week. Our second CapeCod.com Athlete of the Week is Eric Demers, starting point guard for Paul Lundberg’s Falmouth Clippers boys basketball team. The Clippers have been struggling of late, but Friday night in Hyannis Demers showed why he represents true senior leadership: his 14 points all came hard-earned in a 36-35 upset of rival Barnstable on the Red Raiders’ home court not to fail to mention his four assists, four steals and four rebounds.
