Conley Hits for Cycle, Miller Whiffs 10 as Dolphins Sink Vineyarders

OAK BLUFFS – Dennis-Yarmouth leadoff hitter Taylor Conley started her team’s 11-1 win over Martha’s Vineyard with a solo home run and finished by hitting for the cycle as her teammate Hailey Miller fanned 10 batters for the win on the mound.

Miller struck out the side in succession twice as the Dolphins gave ace Sammi Feinstein a respite, and fanned eight of the first nine batters she faced.

Conley, Dennis-Yarmouth’s shortstop, hammered a first inning solo shot, followed by a two-run double in the second inning, an RBI-triple in the fourth and an RBI-single in the fifth to finish 4-5 with five RBI.

Maddi Coyle (2-4, RBI) drove in Kiley Chapasko in the first inning for a 2-0 lead that would hold up as all the Dolphins would need to stave off the host Vineyarders.

Patty Newhard went 2-4, Maggie Johnson went 2-4 and all but two of the Dolphins would end up with hits in this island affair. Dennis-Yarmouth is now 12-2 on the season as it readies to face Falmouth today at 4:00 pm in the Cape Cod Showdown.

Miller scattered four hits and allowed just one run in the fourth. She walked none and hit one batsman.

Tate Wallops Another Home Run, Lady Lions Sink Sharks

St. John Paul II catcher Hadley Tate went 2-4 with three RBI and belted her 11th home run of the season Monday as the Lady Lions came from behind to beat the Monomoy Sharks in Harwich.

Down 2-0 heading into the top of the fifth, the Lady Lions staged a four-run rally behind hits from Kali Tanguay (1-3), Katie Wojciechowski, Kasey Smith (2-4), Tate and Kristen Hayes to make it a 4-2 game.

Monomoy took one run back in the bottom of the fifth, when Emma Thacher drove in Carlee Tolley, but that would be all the hosts could muster as the Lions never relinquished the lead once gained. St. John Paul II tacked on three insurance runs in the top of the seventh, highlighted by Tate’s 11th clout of the season, a two-run shot with battery-mate Jackie Smith on

Sam Carlowicz doubled after Tate’s wallop and came home on Maddi Doyle’s RBI-triple. Doyle went 2-4 on the day.

Jackie Smith, who went 2-4 at the plate, picked up her 12th win of the season with a pair of strikeouts.

St. John Paul II (12-3) is at Nantucket today in a key Cape & Islands League match-up. Monomoy (9-8) heads to Abington Thursday (May 21).

Dartmouth Defeats Red Raiders on Home Turf, 9-4

The Barnstable High softball team (6-11) came roaring back in the late innings to plate four runs but it was too little, too late as the scrappy Red Raiders fell to their guests, 9-4 Monday afternoon.

Cassidy Lariviere went 2-4 with two RBI for the Red Raiders and Jaime Corey went 1-3 with a double and Ashlie Curtiss also registered a safety in the affair.

Barnstable is at Bridgewater-Raynham on Thursday (May 21) with three regular season games left but was eliminated from postseason contention with Monday’s loss to the Indians.
