Eberle Scores Winner in Shootout to Lift Oilers Past Bruins

hockeyEDMONTON, Alberta (AP) — Jordan Eberle scored in the shootout to lift the Edmonton Oilers to a 3-2 victory over Boston on Wednesday night, snapping the Bruins’ five-game winning streak.

Mark Letestu and Matt Hendricks scored in regulation for the Oilers, who improved to 2-3-1 in their last six — with both wins coming in shootouts. Anders Nilsson had 38 saves through overtime and stopped all three Boston attempts in the tiebreaker.

Torey Krug and Zdeno Chara scored for the Bruins, and Tuukka Rask finished with 34 saves.

Letestu’s short-handed goal on a 2-on-1 give-and-go with Hendricks put the Oilers ahead 1-0 with about 9 1/2 minutes to go in the second. Krug’s point shot caromed in off Edmonton defenseman Andrej Sekera to tie it with 1:33 left in the period.

Hendricks tipped Letestu’s shot past Rask at 9:22 of the third, and Chara tied it again a little more than 7 minutes later.
