Falmouth Academy Freight Train Keeps on Rolling with 62-7 Rout

FALMOUTH — On the heels of the previous night’s stunning victory over the St. John Paul II Lady Lions, Falmouth Academy rolled once again.

Backed by a 22-point performance from Eliza Van Voorhis, the Mariners defeated the visiting Cape Cod Academy Seahawks to the tune of a 62-7 rout.

The win puts Falmouth Academy at 13-2 and at the top of the Cape & Islands League standings. Cape Cod Academy falls to 1-9 on the season.

Catherine Wetzel scored five points for the Seahawks and junior captain Morgan Farber scored two points.

Van Voorhis came within one steal of recording her first triple-double of the season as she tore down 11 rebounds and had nine steals to go along with her game-high 22 points. Freshman point guard Kendall Currence was the lone other Mariners to score in double digits with 12 points on the night. Falmouth Academy’s Clemmie Pring added a six-point, 10-rebound performance and each member of the Mariners scored in this affair.

Falmouth Academy hosts Middleboro High School Thursday at 5:30 pm in what promises to be a solid match-up as the off-Cape team hopes to avenge an earlier season loss at the hands of the Falmouth Academy Five.

Cape Cod Academy hopes to get on the winning track on Saturday at 2:00 pm at home when Holbrook comes to Osterville.
