Falmouth Academy Girls’ Lax Express Keeps On Rollin’

FALMOUTH – At this breakneck pace, the Falmouth Academy girls’ lacrosse team could prove the team to beat come postseason time.

The host Mariners received another stellar trio of goal-scoring performances Tuesday afternoon from Jane Earley, Addie Hayman and Charlotte Van Voorhis en route to a 17-7 Cape & Islands League victory over Nantucket.

Earley hammered in five goals and tacked on four assists while Hayman netted her own five-goal day with one helper for six points. Van Voorhis scored four goals.

Eliza Van Voorhis scored a pair of goals and had one assist while Christie Brake had a solo marker to round out the offense for the Mariner girls, now 9-0 and already in the driver’s seat heading to the postseason.

Kenzie Rogers had nine saves in another superlative effort between the pipes for the girls in blue.

The Whalers received four goals from Olivia Slade and single tallies were turned in by Cristina Wilson, Frances Steadman and Lizzie Thayer.

Earley scored just 0:31 seconds into the contest, followed by Charlotte Van Voorhis and then Earley again for a 3-0 lead before Slade made it 3-1 with her first of four goals on the day.

Last season, Falmouth Academy was 5-3-1 nine games into the campaign and not once in her tenure has Mariners’ head coach Sarah Knowles seen such an output for her girls, either in goals scored or check marks in the “wins” column.

“In the past three years I’ve been here we haven’t had this great of a start,” Coach Knowles said. “But the real talent is on the field. They are a driven bunch of athletes. Most of them are three-season athletes, too.”

The Mariners received stellar defense from Tori Avis and Celia Patterson.

Falmouth Academy will be looking for its 10th straight victory on Tuesday, May 12 when it welcomes Sturgis East at 4:00 pm. The Mariners are now 7-0 atop the Cape & Islands League and 9-0 overall.
