Falmouth and Sandwich Girls Tennis Teams Bow Out of Tourney

LAKEVILLE – The #15 seed Falmouth High School girls’ tennis team and #16 Sandwich girls both saw their seasons come to an end Sunday afternoon with 5-0 defeats to #2 Apponequet and #1 Scituate, respectively.

All Cape Cod high school girls’ tennis teams in the MIAA Division 2 South Sectionals have now been eliminated from postseason contention, with #8 Nauset (14-5) falling to #9 Medfield last Thursday.

Falmouth freshman Julia Moskal fell to Apponequet’s Leanne Kendall in the number one singles match-up, 6-2, 6-1, followed by her older sister Marysia Moskal taking a loss at number two singles to Jenna Lahaie, 6-4, 6-0. Apponequet’s Devin Ahearn made it a clean sweep of the singles match-ups with the Clippers when she defeated Emily Gedney, 6-0, 6-0.

At number one doubles, Falmouth’s Emily Maness and Kayla Sheehan were defeated by Shauna Walker and Addie Kendall, 6-1, 6-0 and at second doubles Clippers Paige Meade and Lindsey Shea fell to Keelia Lincoln and Ana Rodrigues in a well-played match, 6-3, 6-2.

Falmouth finished the 2015 campaign at 10-8. Apponequet is now 19-0 on the season and heads to the Div. 2 South quarterfinals against #7 Duxbury today at 4:00 pm.

The #16 Sandwich High girls (10-9) wrapped up their season Sunday afternoon at Scituate High as the top-seed Sailors (20-0) swept all singles and both doubles in the 5-0 loss for the Lady Knights.

Tess Malerbi defeated Sandwich’s Grace Tanguilig, 6-2, 6-0 at number one singles followed by Liz Siranosian’s loss to Sarah Whalen at second singles, 6-0, 6-0. Sabrina Gonzalez then fell to Sara Moskowitz, 6-0, 6-0 at third singles.

Scituate advances to face #9 Medfield today at 4:30 pm.

The #2 seed Barnstable High boys’ tennis team remains alive and faces #7 Needham today at home at 4:00 pm in the MIAA Div. 1 South Sectional quarterfinals, while the #4 Barnstable High girls tennis team will match up against #5 Framingham today at home as well.
