Heavyweight Bout Added to August 8th Hyannis Boxing Event

HYANNIS – An eight-round heavyweight attraction has been added to the August 8th boxing event set to be held at the Hyannis Youth & Community Center (HYCC) in Hyannis, MA as Pembroke native Vinnie Carita (9-1-1, 9 KO’s) will take on Mexico’s Francisco Mireles (17-9, 5 KO’s).

A_BoxingThis fight marks an interesting contrast in styles and size. Carita has fought most of his career as a cruiserweight weighing in at 195-pounds in his most recent bout. Mireles, on the other hand, weighed in for his most recent fight at 252-pounds and will have a clear size advantage.

“If he tries to use his size advantage to impose his will on me, I’ll use my speed advantage to try to outbox him” Carita said recently, “but if the fight turns into a slugfest, remember I’ve got nine knockouts in nine wins. You don’t get paid by the hour in boxing, and I have no problem knocking him out.”

This will be Carita’s first fight in over a year and a rare appearance in his home state as he has gotten used to traveling to box. In his last six bouts, he has fought just once in Massachusetts and has also competed in Oklahoma, Iowa and New Hampshire. Interestingly, his most recent fight was in Mexico.

“I do see the irony in the fact that my last fight was in Mexico against an American and now I’m back in the United States in my home state and I’m fighting a Mexican,” laughed Carita. “That’s a boxing-crazy country. It was quite an experience to fight there. However, I’m glad August 8th I’ll be fighting in Massachusetts.”

Mireles has regularly fought some of the best boxers the world has to offer. Aside from regularly being considered amongst the top heavyweights in Mexico and taking on the best that country has to offer, he’s fought former heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs, former Cuban Olympian Glendy Hernandez and former heavyweight title challenger Lateef Kayode.

“That’s the great thing about boxing,” said Carita. “It truly is a worldwide sport, and if you get to a certain level, you get to travel the world to compete.”
However, August 8th the fight will be close to home on beautiful Cape Cod.

The August 8, 2015 event will be presented by Boston Boxing Promotions. It will be the first professional boxing event held in Hyannis since 2006.
