Lady Lions, Nauset and Vineyard Swim to Wins at Tri-Meet

EASTHAM — The St. John Paul II girls’ swim team picked up a key win Monday night on the road, defeating Martha’s Vineyard, 57-24, in a tri-meet with the host Nauset Warriors.

In turn, the Lady Lions fell to Nauset, 54-38. The Nauset boys swim team defeated the St. John Paul II boys swim team, 48-26. The Vineyard also defeated the St, john Paul II boys, 57-25.

St. John Paul II’s Kerry Bresnahan took a first place finish in the girls 200-yard intermediate medley, as well as a second place finish in the 100-yard butterfly. Teammate Sarah Dorman took a spectacular first-place finish in the girls’ 100-yard backstroke as well as a second place finish in the girls’ 100-yard freestyle. The Lions’ Lila Barker rounded off the St. John Paul II first place finishes when she ended the breaststroke as the meet’s top gun.

Second place finishes for the lions included Kali Tanguay (girls’ 100-yard backstroke), Emily Bean (girls’ breaststroke) and Kristen Hayes who took a pair of second place finishes in both the girls’ 50-yard freestyle and girls’ 200-yard freestyle. The Lions’ 400-yard relay team comprised of Bresnahan, Gabrielle Vailancourt, Dorman and Hayes also took second place.

“We had an outstanding meet,” St. John Paul II head coach Jena Brown said. “The other teams were extremely supportive and helped cheer on new swimmers who were experiencing a varsity meet for the first time.”

Lions’ Chris Bresnahan took a first-place finish for the boys in the 100-yard breastroke and a  second-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly. The St. John Paul Ii boys also took second place in the 200-yard relay.

Results for both the Nauset and Vineyard teams were not made available by publication deadline.
