Mashpee Lady Falcons Fly Over Falmouth Academy Girls in Upset

MASHPEE – The ball bounced just right for host Mashpee High last night, but those bounces did not come till the fourth quarter as the hosts staged an amazing comeback win over the visiting Falmouth Academy Mariners, 43-37.

The Lady Falcons are now 5-13 on the season and the Mariners fall to 15-3.

Falmouth Academy jumped out to an early, 9-5 lead and kept that lead through three quarters of play, only to watch Mashpee put up an overwhelming 20 points in the final frame and in so doing take home the win.

The visiting Mariners, shorthanded and down to just seven eligible players for last night’s game,  were nevertheless up 20-9 at the half and 27-23 after the third.

Seventh-grader Jordan Hue scored a team-high 11 points, including a 9-11 performance at the free-throw line in the fourth quarter that very well may have proved the difference in the non-league victory. Samantha Raftery turned in nine points toward the effort.

Falmouth Academy’s Kendall Currence, a freshman point guard, turned in yet another 21-point game high performance but with only seven players available for last night’s game, the scoring outputs were few and far between for the Mariner Five.

Falmouth Academy went 8-22 from the free throw line and had a difficult time on put-backs beneath the basket.

The Mariners welcome Sturgis West tomorrow night at 5:00 pm and wrap up their regular season on he road at Sacred Heart (Kingston) on Friday at 5:00 pm.

Mashpee heads to Nantucket tomorrow at 5:00 pm.
