NORTH EASTHAM – The man who once coached future NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre will be sharing some of those techniques with local high school players starting next week.
Former Green Bay Packers and Texas A&M head football coach Mike Sherman – hired Saturday as the new head football coach at Nauset Regional High School – wasted little time preparing for next fall when it was announced he would be running the “Mike Sherman QB/Receiver OTA 2015 Camp” to teach players from 8th through 12th grade “the latest in fundamentals and techniques used by NFL players.”
The Camp – which costs $100 (Mike Sherman Camp 15) – will begin Tuesday June 9 and run through Saturday, June 25, chiefly held after school. High School-aged quarterbacks, running backs, tight ends and wide receivers are all eligible to participate and Sherman will be joined by certified Massachusetts high school football coaches.
Players will be grouped by age and ability and will each receive group and individual instruction with an emphasis on “equal time for all players.” The camp’s goal and objectives include teaching “all participants leadership skills for football and the game of life.”
Sherman’s hiring as the new Nauset Warriors’ head football coach made national news last weekend. Sherman coached at the University of Pittsburgh, Tulane, Holy Cross, Texas A&M, UCLA and with the Green Bay Packers, Seattle Seahawks, Houston Texans and Miami Dolphins in the National Football League.
A West Dennis resident and Massachusetts native, Sherman is enshrined in the Algonquin Regional High School Hall of Fame and he played football collegiately at Central Connecticut State University before embarking on his near 40-year coaching career.
