BUZZARDS BAY — The start of the 2015 Massachusetts Maritime women’s cross country season is a few short days away, and as Head Coach Trish O’Brien continues preparations for her second campaign as mentor, she announced today that senior Shavonne Boyle and junior Mara Footit will serve as the Buccaneers’ co-captains this fall.
Boyle, a native of Doylestown, Pa. and a graduate of Archbishop Wood High School, was among the top finishers throughout the 2014 season for Massachusetts Maritime, including a 13th place individual performance in the Lt. Travis J. Fuller Invitational and a fifth place finish at the Pine Manor Invitational. Footit, a native of Wilbraham, Mass. and a graduate of Cathedral High School, was the top individual performer in the final six races of last fall for the Buccaneers, as she claimed the individual crown at the Pine Manor Invitational and recorded a 23rd place finish at the MASCAC/New England Alliance Championships.
“Being a captain carries great responsibility, but it is the ultimate sign of respect, and both Shavonne and Mara certainly have earned that,” O’Brien says of her captains. “Their commitment and dedication to the program is unwavering, and they will
continue to represent their teammates and the entire Academy community with tremendous pride.”
Massachusetts Maritime begins the new season on Saturday, September 5th by hosting the 11th Annual Lt. Travis J. Fuller Invitational alongside Cape Cod Canal beginning at 10:00 am.
