Nauset & M-V Tennis Girls Stay on Winning Track; Barnstable Volleyball Boys Beat Durfee

OAK BLUFFS — Bring it on.

That might as well be the phrase emblazoned on the collective jerseys of the Martha’s Vineyard girls’ tennis team as the still unbeaten Vineyarders swept the visiting Somerset-Berkeley girls, 5-0, Wednesday afternoon on the island. The win places the Vineyard at a perfect, 9-0 on the season.

Kat Roberts kept up her torrid pace with a victory at number one singles over Kelsey Gray 6-0, 6-0, followed by a win at number two singles from Lizzie Williamson who defeated Corrine Morhy 6-0, 6-0. M-V third singles player Charlotte Potter defeated Melanie Wong, 6-0, 6-0, to make it a perfect sweep in singles play for the hosts. The Vineyard did not lose a single set in singles play in the match.

At first doubles. M-V’s Amadine Muniz and Josie Iadicicco teamed up to beat Alyssa Berube and Emma Luke 6-2, 6-1, and at number two doubles, Avery Hazell and Madison McBride defeated Baila Mir and Rachel Santos 7-6, 6-2.

The Warriors raised their record to 9-1 on the season and still hold an unblemished mark in the Atlantic Coast League (5-0) as they defeated the host Sandwich High girls, 4-1, Wednesday afternoon.

Senior co-captain Allie Dadoly notched a win over the Lady Knights’ Grace Tanquilig, 6-1, 6-1, to get things rolling, while sister Nika Dadoly defeated Liz Siranosian in a hard-fought net battle, 7-6 (11-9), 6-3 at number two singles.
At number three singles, the ultra-competitive Kay Stanton gave the Knights a reprieve with a win over Nauset’s Haley Navarro, 7-5, 6-3.

Nauset co-captains Anna Godshalk and Haley Benz defeated Allison Bryant and Tayler Eccleston, 6-0, 6-2 at number one doubles and Taylor Wilkins and Carlisle Wheeler beat Laura Murphy and Jenna Phillips, 7-5, 6-0, in number two doubles action.

Barnstable High’s West-Mather Nears 1,000 lifetime assists as the Red Raiders Take Down Durfee

It was not easy, but the Barnstable High boys’ volleyball team (7-4) picked up a key win Wednesday on the road at Durfee, 3-2.

Senior co-captain Harrision West-Mather notched 36 assists to give him a stunning 90 assists over the course of two games, and left him just 29 shy of breaking the 1,000-career assists barrier.

The Red Raiders won the first set, 26-24, then dropped two straight, 25-22 and 25-17.

Not prepared to give up, Barnstable then went on to win the fourth set, 25-21 and the fifth set, 15-9.

Senior co-captain Donnie Mach turned in 14 kills and nine digs, while Jamie Walsh had four kills and 12 digs, once again proving his defensive skills. Matt Teague added 19 digs and Scott Sawyer Jr. notched 21 kills and had 17 digs.

“When Donnie Mach finally figured out what he needed to do to get us the win, he ran with it,” said head coach Marylou Martin. “They did a good job and they fought hard.”

Barnstable faces BC High at home Thursday at 5:30 pm.
