After giving up basehits to the first two batters he faced in the game, Merrill settled down to strike out the side in succession in the second inning, allowed one unearned run to the Blue Knights in the sixth inning, and walked just one batter while scattering five hits for the complete-game win.

He also went 2-4 at the plate with a two-run double in the seventh.

Sandwich righty Cam Yadisernian took the loss after what had been a tight, 2-1 affair until the top of the seventh when Nauset erupted for five runs.

All totaled, Nauset had just eight hits and leftfielder Colin Ridley combined with Merrill for half of them with a 2-3 day at the plate including a leadoff, opposite –field double in the fifth. He ended up scoring on an error to make it 2-0 which would prove all Merrill would need to seal the win.

Blue Knights’ leadoff hitter Brady Doherty went 2-3 and was the sole Sandwich player with multiple hits.

Sandwich’s postseason hopes remain alive in spite of the loss.
