NCAA DIII New England Baseball Regionals Start Today in Harwich

HARWICH — The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) will host the 2015 NCAA Division III New England Baseball Regional Championship beginning today at 10: 00 am when the Salem State Vikings (25-13) take on the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Engineers (25-12) at B.F.C. Whitehouse Field.

ncaa-baseballWhitehouse Field is home to the Monomoy Regional High School Sharks and the Harwich Mariners of the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League.

“We are thrilled to be chosen to host the NCAA Division III New England Baseball Regional Championship again,” ECAC President and CEO Dr. Kevin T. McGinniss said. “Cape Cod has such a rich history and tradition of postseason baseball, and the Harwich community embraces this event each year. We are proud to partner with the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Cape Cod Sports Advisory Panel, and we look forward to another wonderful experience for so many student-athletes.”

This marks the third straight year the ECAC will host the event at Whitehouse Field and the ninth time in 13 years. The NCAA Division III New England Baseball Regional was held in Harwich, Mass. from 2001-02, 2005-08, 2011 and 2013-2014. The 2015 tournament is slated for May 13-17.

The ECAC – formerly headquartered in Centerville, Mass. and now centrally located in Danbury, CT — will be one of eight hosts for the 2015 NCAA Division III Regional baseball tournaments. The winners of each regional will advance to the NCAA Division III Championship May 22-26 in Appleton, Wis. at Fox Cities Stadium.

Here’s today’s NCAA Division III Tournament, New England Regional championship schedule at Whitehouse Field:

  • Salem State (25-13) vs. MIT (25-12), 10:00 a.m. – Salem State wins, 6-2
  • Southern Maine (31-13) vs. Suffolk (26-14-1), 1:15 p.m.
  • Ramapo (28-14) vs. Castleton State (29-12), 4:30 p.m.
  • Wesleyan (28-9) vs. Curry (23-13), 7:45 p.m.
