Newhard Lights Up Basepaths, Dolphins Remain Unbeaten

EAST SANDWICH – Dennis-Yarmouth centerfielder Patty Newhard had a banner day at the plate Wednesday, while Dolphin ace Slingin’ Sammi Feinstein maintained her unbeaten streak in the circle with a 10-2 win over Sandwich.

The host Lady Knights were down 5-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth when they plated one run on a pair of basehits from Kelly Fitzgerald and Kat Garbacik to make it 5-1. That was about as close as the hosts could make it, however, as the Dolphins added another five digits with one in the sixth and four in the seventh frames en route to a 10-2 Atlantic Coast League victory.

Dennis-Yarmouth is now 6-0 while Sandwich fell to 2-5 on the season.

Newhard went 4-5 with three RBI to pace the Dolphins’ free-wheeling bats, while Ali Plucinski went 2-4 with one RBI.

Dennis-Yarmouth notched a run in the first, one in the second, three in the fourth and another five runs between the sixth and seventh frames. Maggie Johnson went 1-4 with one RBI to add to the damage.

Feinstein went the distance, striking out seven in seven innings of work. She scattered five hits and walked just one. Both runs allowed were unearned.

The Dolphins return to action on Friday (May 1) at Nauset at 4:00 pm. The Lady Knights are back on the field on Nantucket today at 4:00 pm.
