Pingree Hat-Trick Not Enough; Mass. Maritime Laxwomen Fall to Coast Guard

NEW LONDON, CT — Senior Ruby Surgent (Huntingtown) scored five goals to lead Coast Guard to a 16-6 non-conference women’s lacrosse victory over Massachusetts Maritime Thursday evening at Cadet Memorial Field.

advantage at the break, and Coast Guard collected six of the seven goals scored after intermission to post the triumph in the first-ever meeting between the two schools. Dickson and freshman Daria McKenna (Mystic, CT) each added hat tricks and an assist to finish with four points in the win for the hosts, who also received a pair of markers from senior Holly Moore (Pittsfield). Sophomore Niki Kruger (Coronado, CA) chipped in with a marker and helper on the night for the Bears, who also received single tallies off the sticks of senior Anne Schneider (Boise, ID) and freshman Niki Kirchner-Hope (Plantation, FL).

Freshman Brianna Pingree (Mashpee, MA) notched a hat trick in the setback for the visiting Buccaneers (1-2), who also received single goals from junior Janine Prokscha (Washington, CT) and sophomores Dahlia Seggelin (Sharon) and Christina Murphy (Forestdale) as well as an assist from freshman Stephanie Hunt (Brookfield, CT). Freshman Angel Fay (Culver, IN) picked up the win in goal for Coast Guard with an 11-save effort, while senior Deb Langley (Abington) made seven stops in net for Massachusetts Maritime as the Bears outshot the Buccaneers by a 29-21 margin (23-17 on goal) for the contest.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Simmons in a non-league match on Saturday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at 1:00 pm, while Coast Guard will be idle until Saturday, March 28th when the Bears entertain Wheaton in a New England Women’s & Men’s Athletic Conference outing at Cadet Memorial Field that begins at Noon.
