Post 206 Wins Fifth Straight, Holzman Remains Unbeaten

COTUIT – Barnstable Post 206 American Legion’s 6’5” righty Eric Holzman was the model of efficiency last night at Elizabeth Lowell Park as he kept the Marshfield Post 88 (7-3) hitters off balance for a 5-2 win.

It was the fifth straight victory for Post 206 (5-4) after a rocky start.

Holzman struck out four in his complete-game win, walked two and scattered six hits while needing just 91 pitches to finish the game.

Headed for the Taft School in the fall, Holzman was the beneficiary of some rock solid defense, in particular from second baseman Gary DiSarcina Jr. and shortstop Michael Knell.

It was also Knell (2-4, RBI) who put Post 206 on the scoreboard first and on top to stay in the first inning as he hammered a Josh Eastman offering off the left-centerfield wall for a double and drove in DiSarcina (2-4, RBI) who had led things off with a single. Jake Gleason (2-3, 2 RBI), who was hit by a pitch, then scored on a Drew Gallant (1-3, RBI) sacrifice line drive to center for a 2-0 lead.

Post 206 added two more runs in the second frame with basehits from Andrew Williams (2-3), Drew Tardif (1-3), DiSarcina and Gleason for a 4-0 lead that would not be relinquished.

Post 206 heads to Wareham Post 220 tonight for a 7:00 pm match-up at Spillane Field.

American Legion Baseball Notes: most games in District 10 were postponed Wednesday night due to unplayable field conditions between the Cape and Norwell. The Hawkeye Athletic Club climbed one game into first place in the West Division with a 7-4 win over Pembroke Post 143.
