HYANNIS – The pea soup fog Friday afternoon offered about 50 yards of visibility but all Barnstable’s Callie Rogorzenski needed was about 10 feet to get the job done.
Deadlocked at 8-8 with less than three minutes left to play versus archrival Falmouth (0-2), “Go Go Rogo” uncorked a seed past Falmouth sophomore goalie Casey Waggett for the eventual game-winning goal and Barnstable High’s first victory of the season.

“Callie’s amazing. She’s great at draw control, she’s an amazing athlete, she’s got that killer instinct and she’s super competitive,” Barnstable head coach Jen Sadler said. “Callie shows up for every game… she comes to play for sure.”
The Red Raiders’ most prolific scorer this season, Rogorzenski tallied four goals and was joined by senior co-captain Emma Glover who also had four goals (and two assists) including the one that breathed hope and fire back into the Red & White.
Down 8-7 with less than four minutes to go in the second half, Glover attacked the Falmouth net just as it seemed the Clippers might prevail and from that point forward the Red Raiders would not take “no” for an answer. Claire Deely tacked on an insurance goal that made it 10-8 just 0:39 seconds after Rogorzenski’s go-ahead marker (assisted by Shannon Roycroft).
But it was sophomore first-year goaltender Bridget Murphy who may have spelled the less noticeable difference as she made nine saves including nearly a half dozen from 10-feet out and one with less than two minutes to go in the affair.
“It feels great… today they kind of had to trust the process and they trusted the process and it paid off,” Sadler said.
Part of that process included Rogorzenski burying the game’s first score just over a minute from the opening faceoff (23:51), but Falmouth countered almost immediately at the 22:35 mark for a 1-1 tie. Five seconds later, Rogorzenski scored again to make it 2-1, but again Falmouth retaliated shortly thereafter for a 2-2 tie.
All totaled, the Clippers had three of their top front line score two goals on the day including senior attackers Olivia Beaton and Madeline O’Neil and sophomore midfielder Savannah Jensen. Samantha Theroux and Emma Helfrich added solo markers.
The first half ended in a 4-4 deadlock and the game had all the makings of a classic Falmouth-Barnstable knock-down, drag-out battle, even without the legal contact afforded by boys’

lacrosse rules. The intensity was still palpable.
In a span of less than nine minutes in the second half, Falmouth put four goals past Murphy but the gutsy goaltender refused to relent any further as her Red Raider teammates scored a pair to stay within reach and then rattled off four unanswered goals to finish the game for the win.
Coach Sadler was quick to praise her goaltender for her late-game stoicism between the pipes.
“I thought she looked great today,” Sadler said of her rookie netminder. “Eye on the ball and she hasn’t been feeling that well. She did awesome. I’m very proud of her and she’s young. I’m excited to see how she progresses.”
Barnstable next faces Sandwich at home on Monday (April 13) at 4:00 pm. Falmouth hopes to get in the win column against the Cape Cod Academy Seahawks on Monday at 3:30 pm in Osterville.
