Barnstable High, the top seeded team in the South, will battle for its 13th Division 1 South Sectional title today at 10:00 am at Hudson High without junior Kayla Myrbeck, but still loaded with talent.

The Red Raiders’ stalwart and twin sister of top teammate Hayley Myrbeck, sustained a broken ankle recently and is likely out for the season, according to assistant coach Jillian Pacheco.

Still, Barnstable showed its strength in numbers Wednesday (Feb. 18) during the MIAA State Individual Tournament when junior Tali Twomey took a pair of second place titles in the All-Around (37.325 points)and the vault competition with a 9.475 score. She finished in third on the bars (9.3), fifth on the beam (9.3) and eighth in the floor routine (9.25).

Red Raider junior Alexa Wilson came in fourth place in the all-around (36.8 points), fourth in the vault competition (9.15), fourth on bars (9.2), seventh on the beam (9.15) and sixth in the floor routine with a solid 9.3 score.

Sophomore phenom Lauren Hansen took seventh in the all-around (36.175 points), ninth on the vault (9.075) and fourth on the bars (9.2). Barnstable junior Hayley Myrbeck, Kayla’s twin sister, earned 11th place on the vault with a 9.0 score.

Barnstable will be joined by the Falmouth/Mashpee co-op team, with the Clipper/Falcons seeded third in just their second year of varsity competition. Taylor Dimond, Sidney Pinnsoneault and Allison Kondracki are the top gymnasts for Falmouth/Mashpee.
